A Quick Sound Recording Tip

I read about this on a website and thought it strange that I hadn't heard or thought of it before. It's a really simple and smart tip.

Suppose you're recording sound, say from a single microphone, and you have two audio channels available. Instead of setting them to be exactly the same, set one of them to be a few decibels, say 6 or so, lower than the other. That way, if you record a louder noise than you were expecting to, you can switch over to the quieter track in the edit and you've got a better chance of avoiding peaking, distorted audio.
