Spheron's Digital VFX Camera with 20 Stops of Dynamic Range

Spheron, a company which produce a still 360° VR camera with an amazing 26 f stops of latitude, have unveiled an HDR motion camera for visual effects work at Siggraph in New Orleans. The camera shoots full HD at up to 30 frames per second with a dynamic range of 20 f stops. Spheron state that they have exceeded the official 30 frames per second specification to 50 frames per second in the laboratory.
The Spheron Camera
Intended for visual effects use, the camera must be tethered via fibre optic link to a server which receives data from the camera as an EXR stream and then compresses it in RAW format at a ratio of 100:1. The server is able to store five hours of uncompressed video. It is pictured here with PL mount glass but the lens mount is interchangeable. The image sensor is "non-CMOS" and uses a global shutter (as opposed to a troublesome rolling shutter). Check out fxguide's article for more information and pictures.
