"Scarlet" Announced at NAB
RED Digital Cinema promised that when they unveiled their pocket professional camera Scarlet that they would surprise everyone and they have certainly delivered.I had originally reported that the camera would be 2K, a format a little bigger than HD but RED has announced that the camera will instead be 3K and retail, amazingly, for under $3000. And that's not all:
Specifications
- A brand new 2/3" CMOS sensor called MYSTERIUM X
- Frame rates of 1 to 120 fps, even 180 fps in burst mode
- Up to 100 MB/sec REDCODE recording to dual compact flash cards
- A fixed 8X T2.8 RED zoom lens
- A pricetag of less than $3000 US!

Camcorderinfo.com shot this video at the RED booth at NAB. The sound is a little distorted, but the video gives you a good look at this incredible new product.When can you get your hands on a Scarlet? They've scheduled the release for "early 2009" but this is subject to change. They're not even taking orders yet as they did in the early stages of the RED One.
